Spinifex Recruiting is seeking experienced Painting Project Manager to join a government department in Newcastle NSW. The roles are contracted for 12 months and offer a fantastic hourly rate.

The role

The Painting Project Manager will be responsible for Coordinating and guiding painting jobs through the scheduling and execution stages. They will need to communicate effectively with various parties involved in the affected works and ensure customer’s needs and expectations are clearly communicated and accurately documented.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop a close working relationship with the Asset Management Unit in particular the Asset Services Officer
  • Develop a close working relationship with the Schools that are having painting works undertaken
  • Ensure that our values are focused on delivering the best painting service in the industry.
  • Ensure assigned project(s) are kept on schedule and within budget
  • Meeting Departmental commitments, communicate status, and deliver a quality project
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate painting projects from start to finish through final touch up and handover
  • Manage and interview painting contractor crews and keep proper ratios of crews to jobs
  • Identify potential issues and ensure timely decisions are made
  • Ensure proper document control and record keeping
  • Ensure accuracy job costing and facilitate weekly owner crew payroll
  • Ensure assigned project(s) are kept on schedule and within budget while meeting clients’ needs and delivering a quality project


It is essential you have:

  • Minimum of 2 years (5 years preferred) of successful project management experience desired.
  • Demonstrated work history of safely executing projects on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, subcontractors and clients.
  • Ability to learn and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Self-motivated.
  • Superb time management, prioritisation and organisational skills.
  • Detail oriented, dependable, trustworthy and reliable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in use of a Laptop/Tablet, smartphone and software programs such as Outlook Mail/Calendar/Sheets/Drive, Excel, Word.
